stock-photo-17754611-yoga-classOne teacher cannot (to my knowledge) please every student. The student-teacher relationship should feel trusting and comfortable. Many teachers try to accommodate all needs of all students; it is almost impossible. For example: Two students are former dancers. 3 students are die-hard Nordic skiers. 5 students stress at a desk all day. 2 students have titanium body parts. 4 students have arthritis. 1 student is pregnant. Your yoga teacher is highly trained and on a human level, she/he wants to satisfy everyone’s needs. If the teacher is not right for you, there are others to check out…try other studios, other teachers. If the teacher has offered alternatives and variations to each posture AND if she/he has delivered verbal cues to help protect back, knees and shoulders, then to me, she/he has done her best. Gossip is dark. Blaming and shaming a teacher who has worked diligently to give students a “workout” and offered cues to prevent injury is not –in my opinion–an act of compassion.
